Katie Johnson’s interests in artmaking, curatorial work, and non-profit management have taken her on a path that has led to her current position as the Director of Programs and Marketplaces for the American Craft Council. Prior to this position, she was Director of the Creative Business Accelerator/Bridgeway Capital (Pittsburgh, PA) and the Managing Director of Braddock Tiles (Braddock, PA,a non-profit serving local youth through learning the art of hand-making ceramic tile.
While at UNC Asheville, Katie held several leadership positions in the student organization, Art Front. In 2013, her art history thesis landed her a national scholarship from the American Folk Art Society. Shortly after graduation, Katie collaborated with Professor Leisa Rundquist on a large-scale exhibition of self-taught art entitled, “Social Geographies: Interpreting Space and Place” at the Asheville Art Museum. Katie completed the latter project while acting as a Donor Stewardship Manager at the YWCA of Western North Carolina. Katie graduated with a BFA in Studio (Sculpture) and a Minor in Art History in 2013. She also earned a Masters in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky in 2018.
