Italic textGaleria Contrast present HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN, an exhibition held in collaboration with the Gallery Blue Spiral 1 (Asheville, North Carolina), in which the work of North American artists Tamie Beldue and Reuben Negrón is exhibited for the first time in Spain.

For this exhibition both artists are showing artwork they have done in recent years, in which we can appreciate not only their technical skills in the different materials with which they both execute, but also the poetic force of the subjects, spaces and atmospheres that surrounds them. Hazy images and silhouettes that seem like a kind of daydream in the case of Tamie Beldue, and life stories narrated from a moment frozen in time in the case of Reuben Negrón.

Both artists have in common the tireless passion and dedication for their work, which can be seen in the details, the technical thoroughness, the exploration of materials and the development of concepts within the work of each one. In addition to these aspects, the point of communion in their work is the perception, search and handling of light. Each one with their particular style makes light the protagonist of their work.

How the Light Gets In, is a title that speaks both of the visual poetry in the work of Beldue and Negrón, and of the most essential technical aspect of drawing and painting, which is light. How does it behave? How is it represented? How is light trapped within a work?

These concerns regarding light have been shared throughout Art History in Western culture, and beyond finding a final answer, it is enriching to witness the way in which artists regenerate this element over and over again, and thanks to this search never ceases to amaze us.

With intimate themes, of psychological introspection, represented in internal spaces, at times erotic and melancholic at many others, we attend an exhibition of two artists who, without coming from a Spanish tradition or academy, due to their technique and concepts, could perfectly fit within the contemporary figurative art scene in this country.

The exhibition was held at Galeria Contrast, from June 2 to July 30.
