UNC Asheville’s juried national exhibition, Drawing Discourse, will open with special events on Jan. 15 featuring renowned artist; Edgar Jerins. The exhibition features 43 works of contemporary drawing selected from among 908 submissions by 307 artists representing 7 different countries.
Juror, Edgar Jerins, a recipient of a full scholarship to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts was awarded an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant that same year. Subsequent grants: The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, New York Foundation for the Arts, Fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Artists Books, The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Grant, George Sugarman Foundation Grant (twice), and the E.D. Foundation Grant. He has had solo exhibitions at the Latvian Foreign Art Museum, Riga, Latvia, Museum of Nebraska Art, Payne Gallery at Moravian Collage, and Tatistsheff Gallery. His drawings have been widely exhibited in catalogue supported shows across the US. Reviews include The New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and American Arts Quarterly. A feature article “Uomimi in mezzo ai guair” by Lorena Cerbini appeared in Italy’s Arte Magazine. His work and essay are included in the recent survey of figurative art in the Rizzoli book “The Figure.” His public collections are the Arkansas Art Center, Museum of Nebraska Art, and Moravian College. Jerins is represented by ACA Galleries in New York City and teaches at the New York Academy of Art.
Jerin's, will provide an opening lecture about his practice from 5-6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 in the Humanities Lecture Hall. Jerin’s talk will be followed by a reception in the S. Tucker Cooke Gallery from 6–8 p.m.
