It’s okay for things to be broken. If something is broken, it can be put back together. Some things are broken from the start, and that’s okay too. It’s okay not to be perfect.
I knit and crochet yarn, dip it in slip, and fire it to make both functional and sculptural pieces of ceramic art. Yarn is soft, flexible and strong. When made out of organic material it will eventually decay, and it can be cut or worn down over time. Clay is cold, hard and brittle. Once fired, clay will not dissolve in water, and it resists weathering. It is easy to break, but the pieces will last for thousands of years. Together they can make a sock with the consistency and crunch of a ritz cracker, and though it may break, those pieces will last for centuries.
