Artist Statement

As my personal concern for the environment grew, I decided to utilize my photography to create a visual narrative of my own worries and encourage my viewer to recognize their own. While collecting items to create digital collages, the impact of consumerism on the environment became painfully apparent. Mass supply and demand and then the inevitable discarding of items has established a cycle where the individual can easily disconnect from their actions and the consequences they have on the environment. I want to use this project as a wake up call for myself and maybe a few others.

The glorification of consumption contributes to the quickening decay of our world, raising temperatures and pollution everyday. It is inevitably easier to look away. With this in mind, I strived to create playful images to ease the viewer into the realization of what kind of damage disposables do, and perhaps what we can do as individuals to nurture positive change.
