Artist Statement

This body of work draws upon the wide variety of images I encounter during everyday life. I use
the human face and body to express the effect of time on memory and psyche. My work
contains a conglomeration of different media: ink, paint, and collage, conveying the complexity
of experience, and detailed, often automatic linework represents the intense and involuntary
process of encoding experience and image into memory. My objective with this work is to
discover more about the function and purpose of memory, and the qualities of an image that
make it memorable. Inspiration comes from past experiences, images from life and media, and
partially from past drawings of detailed landscapes and architectural forms. Revisiting these
past drawings encourages further exploration of the face and the body as a landscape,
architectural form, or topographical map, and encourages contemplation on the drawings as
remembered images, as well as the remembered images that informed and inspired them.
