Artist Statement
Within my daily life humor, sarcasm and the bizarre are some of the most essential means by which I connect with others. While my work often deals with heavy topics, I engage with my viewers using this same mode of interaction. A simultaneous notion of attraction and repulsion works to convey an uncomfortable concept. Within this body of work I explore the frustrations I face as a service worker, a subject in a capitalist system, and a recipient of government aid as I confront and challenge the systems I feel stuck within. The work which I have created most often stems from feelings of anger which I wish to contain and yet express violently. The artworks allow my audience, as well as myself, to feel seen and understood as we face similar upsetting and frustrating situations.
