Artist Statement

Escapism, the tendency to seek distraction from unpleasant realities, is an act that people in society often take part in out of necessity.
This body of work tackles the topic of escapism and how the depiction of societal coping mechanisms, through a personal lens, can be
utilized as a means to discuss the effects escapism has on people. Focus on the portrayal of self hones in on this series being a personal
exploration. Processing and realizing that escapism is something that I dealt with throughout childhood, and still currently deal with in
my adolescence. Recalling through my own memory how I used to get away from stressors in my personal life as a child, and what that
looks like now in adulthood. This artwork allows the audience to resonate with this body of work through seeing themselves as the figure
indulging in varying forms of release.
