Remi Poindexter is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art & Art History and the Director of Africana Studies at UNC Asheville. He received his Ph.D. in Art History from the CUNY Graduate Center and his B.A. in Art History, Spanish, and Latin American Studies from the University of Delaware.

His scholarship examines depictions of the French Caribbean in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with particular attention to how Martinique was constructed across different media by artists from France and the United States.

At UNCA, he teaches Introduction to Art History as well as courses in Latin American, Caribbean, and Nineteenth-Century Art.
