"I’ve been making artwork professionally since 1986 and much of the work I’ve produced since that time revolves around the landscape of Western North Carolina.

I grew up in Black Mountain North Carolina and my father was a painter and art professor at Warren Wilson College. Starting when I was 10 or 11, my father used to take me along on his painting excursions, where I helped him carry his canvas and easel up different trails in the Blue Ridge. I would help him set up to paint for the day and then I was free to roam about making discoveries and reveling in the freedom of being outside and in the wilderness. It was during these times of solitude as I hiked and explored that my connection to nature and the mountains took root.

Although I have worked with other subjects and themes in my art over the past 30 plus years, the landscape continues to my home.

My teaching career began in 1986 when I was hired as an adjunct for UNC-Asheville where I earned my BFA in Painting and Drawing. After a number of years working as a professional artist, I decided to travel and spent a year in the pacific, New Zealand and Australia. Upon my return I attended the Hope School of Fine Art at Indiana University in Bloomington where I earned my MFA in Printmaking.

In addition to serving as an Adjunct Professor at UNC-Asheville, where I have taught figure drawing, intermediate and advanced drawing and pastel, I’m a Professor of Visual Art at Mars Hill University where I teach 2D foundations and drawing and painting.

I have taught in Florence and Perugia, Italy over a number of summers as well as leading pastel workshops around the country. My work is in various public and private collections including: The Asheville Art Museum, Craven County Arts Council, American Express Corporation, Furman University, The Breakers at Palm Beach, Western Carolina University and The Biltmore Estate."
